President Donald Trump announced Judge Brett Kavanaugh as his nominee to the Supreme Court last night. Once confirmed, Judge Brett Kavanaugh will fill the vacancy of retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

This is the second time that President Trump has had the opportunity to nominate a high court justice from the list of names compiled during his 2016 campaign. As he did with his first selection – Justice Neil Gorsuch, President Trump promised to nominate a justice that interprets the law based on the constitution. We trust the president on his nomination of Judge Kavanaugh, who has had a twelve-year track-record of applying the Constitutional laws during his time on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals.

“There is no one in America more qualified for this position, and no one more deserving,” said President Trump.

After Justice Kennedy announced his retirement, the left turned this nomination into a reproductive rights issue with the possibility of an overturning of Roe v. Wade. Judge Kavanaugh was not asked by the president on how he would rule on this matter. However, Judge Kavanaugh shared his judicial philosophy during his nomination speech at the White House.

“My judicial philosophy is straightforward,” he said. “A judge must be independent and must interpret the law, not make the law. A judge must interpret statutes as written and a judge must interpret the Constitution as written, informed by history and tradition and precedent,” said Judge Kavanaugh.

We look forward to having an ethical and objective justice on the high court, and we support the President as we await the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh.
